The Real Golden & Ultra Vanilla Parisian Flan

Recipe: The Real Golden & Ultra Vanilla Parisian Flan

Introduction: This classic French flan, or “flan parisien,” is a rich and creamy dessert with a smooth, golden top. It’s flavored with vanilla for that irresistible aroma, and its silky texture will melt in your mouth. Perfect for any occasion, this flan is a real treat for the senses and a must-try for dessert lovers!

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter whole milk
  • 150g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 vanilla bean or 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • (Optional: Caramel for the top)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a round cake pan or flan mold with butter.
  2. Prepare the milk mixture: In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. Split the vanilla bean (if using) and scrape the seeds into the milk, adding the empty pod as well. If using vanilla extract, add it directly to the milk. Stir and bring the milk to just below boiling point (do not let it boil). Remove from heat and let it infuse for a few minutes.
  3. Prepare the egg mixture: In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar together until the mixture is smooth and slightly frothy.
  4. Combine the mixtures: Gradually pour the warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly to avoid scrambling the eggs. Once combined, strain the mixture through a fine sieve to remove any vanilla pods or egg bits.
  5. Bake the flan: Pour the custard into the prepared pan. Place the pan in a larger baking dish and add hot water around it to create a bain-marie (water bath). This will help the flan cook evenly. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the flan is set and slightly golden on top.
  6. Cool and serve: Let the flan cool completely at room temperature before refrigerating it for a few hours or overnight. Once chilled, you can optionally top it with caramel for an extra sweet touch.
  7. Enjoy: Slice and serve your delicious, creamy French flan. Perfect with a cup of coffee or a refreshing glass of fruit juice!
