savory Mushroom Puff

Recipe Introduction: This savory Mushroom Puff Pastry is a delightful combination of crispy, flaky pastry and tender, flavorful mushrooms. Perfect as a side dish or a light meal, this dish is an easy yet elegant addition to any table. The aromatic thyme and earthy mushrooms are perfectly balanced by the golden, buttery pastry.

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 2 cups mushrooms (button or cremini), sliced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the mushrooms: Heat the olive oil or butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until soft, about 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 1 minute until fragrant. Add the sliced mushrooms, thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook until the mushrooms release their moisture and become tender, about 7-10 minutes. Add the heavy cream and stir to combine. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat and allow to cool.
  2. Prepare the puff pastry: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the puff pastry sheet onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Using a knife, score a border around the edges, about 1 inch from the edge, to create a frame. Be careful not to cut all the way through.
  3. Assemble the pastry: Once the mushroom mixture has cooled slightly, spread it evenly inside the puff pastry frame. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg to help it brown.
  4. Bake: Place the puff pastry in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Enjoy your delicious mushroom puff pastry as a tasty appetizer or a light meal!
