Poor Man’s Slow Cooker Cubed Steak with Gravy

Juicy Hamburger Steak with Brown Gravy (like in the photo)

Serves: 3–4

Time: ~30 minutes

Ingredients

For the steaks

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion, very finely grated
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs (or soaked bread)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp oil or butter (for frying)

For the gravy

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the patties
    In a bowl, mix ground beef, grated onion, egg, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
    Shape into thick oval or round patties (like the photo).
  2. Cook the steaks
    Heat oil/butter in a pan over medium heat.
    Fry patties 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned.
    Remove and set aside (keep warm).
  3. Prepare the gravy
    In the same pan, add butter.
    Stir in flour and cook 1 minute.
    Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
    Add soy or Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thick.
  4. Combine
    Return patties to the pan.
    Spoon gravy over them and simmer 5 minutes until juicy and tender.
