- 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
- 300 g (about 10 oz) ground sausage or minced meat
- 100 g (1 cup) shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- 2 tbsp tomato or pizza sauce (optional)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp milk (to mix with the egg)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: dried herbs (oregano, thyme, or paprika)
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the puff pastry:
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread a thin layer of tomato or pizza sauce over the pastry (optional).
- Add the filling:
- Evenly sprinkle the raw ground sausage (or minced meat) over the pastry.
- Add shredded cheese on top.
- Season with salt, pepper, and herbs to taste.
- Roll it up:
- Carefully roll the pastry from one edge to the other, forming a tight log.
- Seal the edge by pressing gently.
- Cut and prepare for baking:
- Slice the roll into even pieces (about 3–4 cm thick).
- Place them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush with egg wash:
- Beat the egg with milk and brush the tops for a shiny golden finish.
- Sprinkle a little extra cheese on top if desired.
- Bake:
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Serve warm:
