Crispy Fried Shrimp Recipe (Golden & Crunchy)

Ingredients

  • 500 g raw shrimp (peeled & deveined, tails on or off)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch (for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup cold water or cold sparkling water
  • Oil for deep frying (vegetable or sunflower)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Optional Dip

  • Mayonnaise + garlic + lemon juice
  • Or sweet chili sauce / tartar sauce

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prepare shrimp
    Rinse shrimp, pat completely dry with paper towels.
  2. Make the batter
    In a bowl mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, pepper, and spices.
    Add egg and cold water gradually → batter should be thick but flowing.
  3. Heat oil
    Heat oil to 170–180°C (340–355°F).
  4. Coat shrimp
    Dip shrimp into batter, let excess drip off.
  5. Fry
    Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  6. Drain
    Remove and place on paper towels.
  7. Serve hot
    With lemon and your favorite sauce.

⭐ Tips for Perfect Shrimp

  • Use very cold batter → crispier result
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan
  • Add sparkling water or beer for extra light texture
  • For spicy shrimp: add chili powder or cayenne
