Stuffed Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 medium green cabbage
- 500 g ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
- 100 g rice (uncooked)
- 1 egg
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 400 ml tomato sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- Place the whole cabbage in the boiling water for a few minutes until the outer leaves become soft.
- Carefully separate the leaves and set them aside.
- Make the filling
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper.
- Mix until well combined.
- Assemble the rolls
- Place a spoonful of filling onto each cabbage leaf.
- Fold the sides over the filling, then roll tightly.
- Cook the rolls
- Arrange the rolls in a large pan or oven dish.
- Pour the tomato sauce over them.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for 1–1.5 hours, or bake in the oven at 180 °C for about 1 hour, until the rice is cooked and the rolls are tender.
- Serve
- Serve hot with extra tomato sauce on top.
