Stuffed Cabbage Rolls in Tomato Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 medium green cabbage
  • 500 g ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
  • 100 g rice (uncooked)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 400 ml tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cabbage
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
    • Place the whole cabbage in the boiling water for a few minutes until the outer leaves become soft.
    • Carefully separate the leaves and set them aside.
  2. Make the filling
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, rice, chopped onion, egg, salt, and pepper.
    • Mix until well combined.
  3. Assemble the rolls
    • Place a spoonful of filling onto each cabbage leaf.
    • Fold the sides over the filling, then roll tightly.
  4. Cook the rolls
    • Arrange the rolls in a large pan or oven dish.
    • Pour the tomato sauce over them.
    • Cover and simmer on low heat for 1–1.5 hours, or bake in the oven at 180 °C for about 1 hour, until the rice is cooked and the rolls are tender.
  5. Serve
    • Serve hot with extra tomato sauce on top.
