Homemade Mosquito Repellent Hack (Using Vicks & Cotton Balls)

Ingredients

  • 1–2 tablespoons Vicks VapoRub
  • A few cotton balls
  • (Optional) Basil plant or fresh basil leaves (shown in the image)

Instructions

  1. Scoop some Vicks
Take a small amount of Vicks VapoRub and apply it generously onto cotton balls.
  2. Place cotton balls around entry points
Put the Vicks-soaked cotton balls near:
    • windowsills
    • corners of rooms
    • under tables
    • near the bed
    • any area where mosquitoes tend to come in

  3. The strong menthol and eucalyptus scent helps deter mosquitoes.
  4. Optional: Add basil nearby
    Basil also naturally repels mosquitoes.
Place a basil plant on a windowsill or near a door for an extra layer of protection.
  5. Replace every 24–48 hours
When the scent fades, refresh with new cotton balls.

Extra Tips

🟢 Apply a tiny amount of Vicks on your ankles and behind your knees (not on sensitive skin) — these are mosquito-target areas.

🟢 Keep plants like basil, mint, or lemongrass near windows and doors.

🟢 Make sure windows are properly sealed and screens are intact.
